Canuck Panic

Listening to Vancouver sports talk radio it's been hard to keep hearing everyone bash the Canucks. Now I need to preface my comments I do believe the Ducks will win the series but I hope not.

Everyone is coming down on the team. Luongo is perfect and can do nothing wrong. Most of the heat seems to be on Naslund. I understand that he is making 6 million a year and he is talented. He hasn't been the same Markus in a while. BUT what about the other Canucks. These guys need to play together as a team. It's not Markus' fault we aren't winning the series. One guy who NO ONE is talking about is Smolinski. We traded for this guy to be the centre to help Naslund. What the heck has Bryan Smolinski done in the playoffs? After the trade Bryan was 4th in scoring on the Canucks roster behind the twins and Naslund because of his play in Chicago. Of course the pressure needs to be on the twins but hockey is a team game. What about Burrows chipping in the odd goal? Morrison has done jack squat. Linden is playing the best hockey in years. Like Cowan is a great addition not that we can't depend on him but his goals are a pleasant surprise. Boy it would be nice to have Cooke and Kelser healthy.

Canuck fans are the worst...they bash the Canucks big time at any sign of struggle. I feel a true fan will support and cheer for the boys no matter what.

Go Canucks go! Win game 4 and you are back in this series!

I feel a true canucks fan should BELIEVE without a doubt that the Canucks will win every round. I still think they will win the round against the Ducks eventhough they are behind 3-1.

Canucks blew a great chance to win tonight. But the Ducks showed just how good they are. Once they started dominating play, the Canucks simply didn't recover.

Here's the problem with Smolinski. Vancouver is the 7th NHL team to think that they had a talented guy coming their way. They're the 7th team to find out that the report on him when he was drafted was bang on - "talented, but prone to long spells of unmotivated play". So to expect him to all of a sudden remove his cranium from his buttocks and mesh well with Naslund is a little too much, really.......

Now. It's odd that people are smacking on Markus. He's started scoring a little again, but at least when he's not, he's winning puck battles - one of the few Canucks to be doing so - and generally bringing other things to the rink. He's showing something at least.

The same CANNOT be said for the Sedins, who are reeeeally the ones escaping the wrath. When they're not scoring, they're not doing a thing. They get bumped off the puck easily, and without being handed room to cycle around, they have nothing to offer. NOTHING. They don't hit, they don't backcheck, they don't dive for loose pucks, they don't block shots. All things that "stars" do at playoff time these days. I'm shocked that they never seem to get mentioned anymore as culprits.

The Canucks fleeced the Kings in the Cloutier deal, and in them taking Crawford. The Kings returned the favour when they got the Canucks to take Sopel back. I'd say he's been awful, but that's an understatement. Drop him to Manitoba and bring ANYONE ELSE up. They can't be any worse. What an absolute waste. I can't believe someone posted elsewhere in this blog that it was a good thing for the Canucks.

Bieksa might be injured, so I guess one could cut him some slack, but he's not doing the team any favours. I swear that Ohlund is injured - he's just not the same player. Morrison needs to start using his speed better, and fight through checks. Kesler and Cooke are missed.

The Canuck players that are stepping up are Luongo (duh), Linden (most of the time), Mitchell (some bad penalties due to lack of foot speed though), and yes, Markus Naslund. He hasn't been the $6 million man, but he's been showing up most nights anyway.

Do the Canucks have a chance? Of course - but Luongo is going to have to do it for them. If they win game 5, it's truly a brand new series. They can't look at it as a 3-1 deficit, just game by game. Win game 5, then look at game 6. And it's cliche, but they have to play a full game to beat Anaheim. 20-40 minutes worked against Dallas, but it won't work against the Ducks.

The Canucks just don't want to win. They have no killer instinct to get the job done.

The fans in this city are too accepting of the mediocraty this franchise has delivered over the past 35 years. The team needs to raise their level of play.

Finstad I think you are on Canuck glue. A "true canuck" should believe without a doubt that they will in every rd?

Dude I am with you...I want them to win not only every round but the Cup.

You are the ONLY FAN who thinks to be a true fan we must not doubt and make unrealistic predictions. Just because you and most of the city bought a Canuck shirt that says believe won't make them win any games.

Here is reality: Vancouver has won only 1 playoff round in years and years. So to think we make the playoffs and we win the cup is very unrealistic. Plus the DUCKS are better than you think. The MacDonald, Selanne, and Kunitz line might be the best line in the playoffs. Giggy is out playing Luongo as well.

Dean...I like your thoughts on Sopel. He hasn't played well. The twins hasn't been incredible but I think they have been okay.
